Mr. Li Jiaxian, a delegate to the 6th and 7th National People's Congress, former Chief Engineer of the Bridge Engineering Bureau of the Ministry of Railways, Professor level Senior Engineer, and Advisor to the Journal of Bridges, passed away on April 15, 2016 in Nanjing due to ineffective medical treatment, at the age of 90.

Li Jiaxian, graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1926, is a renowned bridge expert in China who made outstanding contributions to bridge construction. I have presided over and participated in the design of Wuhan, Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, Yangon Bridge in Myanmar, and others. He spent his entire life building bridges and won the first National Science and Technology Contribution Special Award. Whenever there are important bridge projects in China, one can always see his presence.

Li Jiaxian and numerous bridge experts visited the Kentucky Asia Training Service Center in the United States for inspection. And provided valuable suggestions to the Kentucky Asia Training and Technical Service Center in the United States.

Since serving as a consultant for Bridge magazine in 2008, Mr. Li Jiaxian has written articles such as "Reflections on the 40th Anniversary of the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge" for the magazine, participated in multiple annual meetings of the editorial board of Bridge magazine, and provided suggestions for the development of the magazine. The Bridge magazine once published an article written by Mr. Zhu Haitao in the 18th issue of the "People" column, titled "A Lifetime Undertaking of Great Tasks and a High Character", which recounted Mr. Li's past experience in the bridge industry and his noble character of "being strict in his actions but cautious in his words" and "being indifferent to fame and fortune while pursuing peace and fortune".
