High end Engineering Issues - Celebrating the 22nd National Bridge Conference
On the morning of May 9th, 2016, the atmosphere inside the Oriental Hotel in Guangzhou was lively and bustling, with over a thousand leaders, experts, and bridge builders from the domestic and foreign bridge industry gathered here. The 2016 Guangzhou Conference of the International Association of Bridge and Structural Engineering (hereinafter referred to as the International Association of Bridges) and the 22nd National Bridge Academic Conference have opened here. Domestic guests attending the meeting included: Liu Shijie, vice president and secretary-general of the Chinese Society of Civil Engineering, Feng Maorun, former chief engineer of the Ministry of Transport, Deng Wenzhong, foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and academician of the American Academy of Engineering, Zhou Fulin, honorary chairman of the Academic Committee and academician of the CAE Member, etc. The international guests attending this conference include Hyun Moon Koh, Vice Chairman of the International Bridge Association and Professor at Seoul National University in South Korea, Christian Cremona, Chairman of the Technical Committee of the International Bridge Association and Technical Director of the French Ministry of Transport, and Chep Uytiepo, Secretary General of the International Bridge Association. The representatives attending the conference are from 29 countries, totaling 1110 people.
The Kentucky Asia Training and Technical Service Center in the United States participated in the Guangzhou Bridge Conference, and the center's leader, Mr. Jin, exchanged ideas with bridge experts on bridge concrete protection technology. Experts have highly praised and recognized the globally leading water-based permeable crystalline materials produced by Kentech Company in the United States. During the conference, Kentucky Electric Company in the United States prepared exquisite small gifts to give back to new and old users, as well as to bridge experts and leaders.

Numerous well-known domestic and foreign experts and important central leaders delivered welcoming speeches at the opening ceremony. Subsequently, Feng Maorun, former chief engineer of the Ministry of Transportation, presented the Bridge Award established by the Tongji Bridge Education and Research Development Fund to reward those who have made outstanding contributions and contributions in bridges and related fields. The award is divided into three categories, namely "Li Guohao Original Bridge Technology Award", "Xiang Haifan Outstanding Bridge Youth Award", and "Fan Liji Excellent Bridge Book Award". The three major awards are awarded every two years. Academician Deng Wenzhong won the 2016 Li Guohao Award for his work "Steel and Concrete Mixed Continuous Bridges", and Dr. Zhu Jinsong from Tianjin University became a recipient of the 2016 Haifan Award. Academician Xiang Haifan was honored with the 2016 Fan Li Foundation Award for his monograph "Advanced Bridge Structure Theory".
After the opening ceremony, we immediately entered the first part of the main report speech. Gao Zongyu, the chief engineer and design master of China Railway Bridge Survey and Design Institute Group Co., Ltd., conducted in-depth research on high-speed railway bridges. His report was titled "China High Speed Railway Large Span Bridges". Antony Wood, Executive President of the World Association of Tall City Architects in the United States, gave a report titled "Next Generation Tall Buildings"

Starting from the afternoon of May 9th, the conference will hold group meetings. Seven sub venues will be established on the afternoon of May 9th and the morning of October 10th, with four sub venues being the International Bridge Association Conference and the other three being the National Bridge Academic Conference. A total of 94 speakers from home and abroad gave speeches at the branch venue.
On the afternoon of the 10th, the conference entered the closing ceremony and the second part of the main presentation. This speech attracted high attention from the attending representatives and received a warm response.

The preparation stage for the Guangzhou International Bridge Association Conference and the 22nd National Bridge Academic Conference took four years, and a total of 229 paper abstracts were received, of which 216 were included. These paper abstracts come from 33 countries and regions, with approximately 44% from China and 56% from other countries and regions. In addition, the conference received a total of 151 full-text papers, of which 131 were included. They come from 23 countries and regions, with half from China and half from overseas.
This conference is an international and national event, a platform for engineers to have face-to-face conversations with practical engineering, and a feast of intellectual collision. It has received widespread attention and support from the industry and fully reflects the tremendous progress and latest technological innovation and application in planning, design, construction, management, and maintenance of civil engineering in China, It is of great significance to guide and promote independent innovation and new technology application in China's engineering construction in the future, and will play an important role in promoting scientific and technological innovation and progress in engineering construction, as well as improving engineering quality and safety levels.
On the 11th, representatives from the Guangzhou Conference of the International Bridge Association and the 22nd National Bridge Academic Conference will respectively conduct technical visits to the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge and the Humen Second Bridge.
