Introduction to the Cincinnati Museum Project in the United States
The Cincinnati Railway Station, originally built in 1933, was officially converted into the Cincinnati Museum in the 1990s. It is a local historical landmark and was recognized by the American Institute of Architects as one of the exemplars of modern American architectural design in 2007.
The interior of the building is in an artistic decoration style, with a semi dome that is the size of the Western Hemisphere, 180 feet wide and 106 feet high. German artist Reiss designed two murals depicting the history of Cincinnati in the hall, as well as 14 murals depicting local industries (piano manufacturing, radio broadcasting, rooftop manufacturing, leather making, aircraft and component manufacturing, pharmaceutical and chemical processing, printing press publishing, etc.).
After the decline of railway transportation in the 1950s and 1960s, the station was abandoned on October 29, 1972. On May 15, 1973, the Urban Development and Planning Committee of the Cincinnati City Council voted to designate the Union Station as a protected monument. In the 1990s, colored terrazzo flooring was used in the renovation, and the surface was treated with ChemTec concrete sealing and curing agent. After more than 20 years of use, the flooring remains shiny and bright.
