Introduction to the Mark Twain Bridge Project in the United States
The Mark Twain Bridge was built on September 4, 1936, and was named to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mark Twain's birth. It is the main bridge connecting Interstate 72 and Highway 36 in the United States, spanning the Mississippi River. The Missouri government has erected a Mark Twain stone statue on the Missouri side of the Mark Twain Bridge to commemorate great men.
Mark Twain was a famous American writer, humorist, novelist, and also a renowned speaker. He was an outstanding representative of American realism literature in the late 19th century. Mark Twain grew up in Hannibal, Missouri, and his upbringing here provided inspiration and writing materials for his later masterpieces, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.
It must be said that Mark Twain's life was full of legendary colors. Before becoming a famous writer and speaker, Mark Twain worked as a typesetter, gold digger, and journalist, among other professions. He even worked as a pilot on the Mississippi River. This may be why the Mark Twain Bridge spanning the Mississippi River was named after Mark Twain.
While relieving the inconvenience of transportation between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, it also demonstrates people's support and remembrance of outstanding figures, which undoubtedly endows the Mark Twain Bridge with a more profound meaning of existence.
The bridge has been in good condition after more than 70 years of wind and rain. In 2004, American ChemTec concrete sealing and curing agent was used for protection in the concrete curing of the bridge deck.
